Hello everyone! I thought I would share our kitchen remodel with you today.
Our kitchen was in desperate need of a new layout and updating. As you can see from the before pics, the original design was dark, cramped and divided with no room to really function the way a kitchen should.
We knew this would be a BIG project and we knew we needed to research and plan every detail to have things go as smoothly as possible! When you are on a budget, planning is crucial! I CAN'T SAY THAT ENOUGH! If you are anything like me, you get so excited at the start of a project and want to jump in and demo that minute, but I can tell you from many misadventures, patience and planning is your best defense against more problems down the road!!!
The first thing we did was to decide on our layout. In our case that involved taking out a wall and sliding door to put in a new window and moving the sink across the room. We knew this would involve new cabinets which can really eat up your budget, so I opted to use some of our existing cabinets to make our island and also to do some open shelving on top! I love this look, so that was an easy one for me. We also opted to add some shiplap to the walls, a brick backsplash and a faux wood beam to bring in the farmhouse character that we were going for. To save money, we did as much of the work that we could do and then hired a contractor for the rest.
The kitchen really is the core of your home and so worth the time and effort to make it the best it can be for years to come! It was a slow process that started in March and finished in July. So glad we did it!! So glad it's done!!!!
