I have been in search of a new bed frame for sometime now. I've considered new, old and everything handmade. Can I just say, there are some incredibly creative people out there who have made some awesome beds!
But when it came down to it, I just could not decide if I wanted cloth covered or wood for material. I should start by saying that I had decided on a French country style, that is both comfortable and relaxing, but with a little glam and that sweet farmhouse charm. (whoo..... that's a lot to fit into one room!)
After weeks, more like months, deliberating (my poor Mr. Hubs!) I was extremely fortunate to find the most beautiful bed for sale on Craigslist. I couldn't believe my eyes....there it was, just what I had imagined! A statement piece to say the least! The detail on the wood was perfect and I have always loved poster beds. There were many questions to be answered. Would it fit in our room? How would we get it home? What color would I decide to paint it? One by one the questions were answered and thanks to my wonderful hubs, whom without his help, none of this would have been possible, and also to my very generous brother who blessed us with some money for Christmas to pay for it, we were able to bring this incredible bed home! I had no idea until we went to look at the bed how heavy and well made it actually was! It was quite the job for two people but where there is an excited wife, there is always a way! We set out all the pieces on the living room floor and I was excited to start painting immediately! The funny thing was, I thought I had the whole weekend to work on our beautiful bed, but my wonderful Hubs had been making arrangements for a surprise birthday party for me. Yikes!!!! He seemed to be a little nervous about the mess I was making and how long it was going to take to finish painting. It finally hit me in the grocery store that he was up to something. It's so amazing to me how a bit of panic can urge you ahead to complete a project ( I should have company every week!)
I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in pure white with clear wax. Then a gentle sanding on the edges and details to bring out that old, vintage look. It all came together and we were able to get the bed upstairs and put together in record time! My party was so special and a great time to reconnect with some special people that I have not seen in a while. What great memories I will have every time I look at our beautiful bed. Memories that make me smile and remember that I have been blessed with so many special people in my life! That's what making your home all it can be is all about. I encourage you to cherish the people in your family and life and count your blessings everyday!
Welcome! I'm Heidi Vagle.
